What is the difference between an inkjet printer and a laser printer?

Knowing your printer ink...inkjet cartridges and laser toner cartridges are important components of printer systems, however there are a few basic differences between the two, here are some of them-

What is in the cartridge?

The inkjet cartridge contains ink, whilst a laser toner cartridge contains a toner. The ink inside a laser toner cartridge is dry and not wet ink as in the case of inkjet cartridges.

What are the running costs like?

Although inkjet cartridges are cheaper than laser toner cartridges, laser toner cartridges have a much better page yield than inkjet cartridges so will last longer. The cost per page works out cheaper with laser toner so if you are printing in high volume, then it would be more cost effective to print this way.

How do the printing speeds compare?

When it comes to the speed of the printing process, laser printers are faster than inkjet. More often than not, this is down to the sophisticated printhead technology in laser printers.

How does the print quality compare?

Laser toner cartridges print a better image quality than inkjet cartridges, but the difference is not that large- no cartridge is better than the other, the choice depends on your needs and requirements. For example, an inkjet printer would print a better photo, whereas a laser printer would print better quality of text.
